Description

This is the sixth in my series of presenting 4D solids as art. Today’s offering is called a “Super Shape”. Now, this may not sound like a formal mathematical term (such as “sphere” or “cube”) but actually, it is. The term is based on a class of mathematics called “Super Geometry”. I find the structures generated by super geometry quite beautiful; otherwise, I would not be presenting today’s offering because I will have the devil’s own time trying to describe it. For starters, it is mind-bendingly complex. Here is a direct quote from the introduction to a technical paper on the subject: “Super geometry is a generalization of differential (and algebraic) geometry where the local rings contain both commuting and anticommuting coordinates”. So I am not going to talk about the math. Who cares about the math? I don’t. All of those years being force fed it at university have never done me one iota of good. Instead, I will briefly dwell on the fascinating things super geometry has shown. First, it is used in the esoteric realm of quantum physics to describe sub-atomic size scales (so small they make atoms seem the size of planets). It shows that there is an implicate order in all things. That is to say that in a dimension called “super-space” everything in the universe (more properly the multi-verse) is connected. So the overworked phrase “we are all one” turns out to be something that is demonstrably provable. Of course, when Krishna said the same thing to Arjuna on the battlefield (in the Bhagavad Gītā [Song of God]) two thousand years ago, he had no proof, but Arjuna was pretty impressed anyway. Second, super geometry reveals a characteristic known as “super symmetry”. This concept shows that the existence of parallel universes is viable and that the number of these universes is infinite. This in turn means that there are an infinite number of you and that therefore the concept of mortality becomes moot. This comes as welcome news to me because I am now sixty-three years old and I don’t have that much time left. It is comforting to know that somewhere, there is a universe where I am only three weeks old. Of course, the life I lead there will be different from the one I led here, but hey, I can live with that. I just hope I get to do the fifties again. Oh! And next time I want a ’57 Chevy. And more restrooms at Woodstock. And… Anyway, enough of that. Today’s rendering is an illustration of the parallel universes concept. Regardless of the math, I find it beautiful and I hope you do too. Created in Ultra Fractal

Marvelous image Stan. Your writeup as always is fascinating. I honestly had not heard of super shapes or super geometry. I had a tough time with trig in school. Luckily a deep math based understanding is not necessary to appreciate these shapes or the concept of a parellel universe. I find the idea that in a few years when i get a little older and end up wearing Depends there will be a brand new me somewhere wearing huggies, kind of a strange thought. Thank you for today's thought provoking image and description. Have a great weekend.

I love these wonderful shapes you make with your very advanced mathmatics. They are so intricate and facinating. I too hope to come back and do the fifties again they were the best, though we didn't have computers then so I hope they are there in the fifties next time LOL.

Dear Stan, you did it again! You let yourself be carried away by your description, I really enjoyed it. Maybe I should ever sit next to you in a Chevy'57, how would it be? :D But before that, I must first finish this life. In the meantime I look forward to what will be! Plus I enjoy your uploads, that shows how good your ideas, and formulas can be transformed into an amazing art.
