Greetings to the people of Earth.
I've always wanted to say that! Now that I did, I can now get on with other things.
I'm a science fiction writer (not famous yet) born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. I've lived in the Czech Republic and Germany, and though I am currently back in Chicago, much of my heart remains in the Czech Republic. Maybe it's the beer. Or the bread. I hope to live in Moscow soon, as a big portion of my heart already resides there. I've had an interest in science fiction since an early age and will probably maintain that interest for the rest of my life. I love SF, and anything else that embraces the spirit of discovery...or anything that chafes against the arbitrary boundaries of "conformity."Â
I discovered Renderosity a couple of years back when I was browsing the internet, looking for cool images to spark my imagination during a period of writer's block. It wasn't a serious block, but I needed something to make me ask the sorts of questions that I always ask before settling down to craft a short story or novella. Since that time, I've written quite a lot and I've begun to post photographs and other visual works that I created here...partially because I love the Renderosity community in general, and partially because the images and text-snippets that I have contributed here are something of an ongoing journal. I'm incredibly lazy when it comes to journal keeping, and so posting picures of particular significance actually helps me to remember the things I want to remembe, without having to eat into my fiction writing time by writing non fiction. Well, at least that's my excuse and I am sticking with it.
I entered into the field of photography totally by accident; I'd always been interested in capturing small stories, but it wasn't until my journey to Europe that I began to consciously seek out tableaus that imply stories in progress. As a result of that, my writing is growing in unexpected directions, and I look forward to becoming more and more active here, and in other artistic/publishing fields.

I really like the play of light, as you said yourself, but what makes this is definitely the guys and the way they are standing in this. Excellent timing to capture a great moment full of story.

Nicely done, Chip.

Chip, I love the postwork but more than that, the interest in the people is incredible. Super shot.

I do love the light, perspective, depth, and people in this image! There must be a railing where you are standing overlooking the staircase, but looking at your image, and reading your words, I imagine that you are some incorporeal spirit, hovering and watching. Another visitor, eyeing the scene. I agree, that it is their poses that makes the two men so interesting. That and their clothing. They may be together, perhaps on a joint mission, but there is a world of differences between them. As they stand here, one seems to be gazing, the other itemizing. I love the light and shadows! The visitors make a wonderful focus, and I spent some time weaving personalities around them, but I kept be distracted by the light. Shadows zigzag on the railings, or make arrows on the steps. Light and shadows streak across the floor and a raised foot leaves a ball of darkness behind it. Window frames glow and reflect outward. Tiny boxes are all over the place. I like the dominance of soft toned blues and reds. A beautiful and fascinating image! I am curious about the lines. Orange Line, Purple Line, Pink Line. Red Line, Blue Line,...Out of Line?

I love the light. Stripes, pools, swatches, corners ... it's endlessly wonderful! The guys are fascinating ... whatever they're looking at, it marks them as "other," and I am as "other" as they are ... I want to see what they're seeing! The colors are just right. Those teals and browns, darker and lighter depending upon the light and their composition, are a joy to behold. There's SO much to like about this!

Excellent capture, Chip! I really love the lighting and perspective - everything draws the eye to the visiting men marvelling at the urban scenery.

There is such a huge amount of interest in the image, but your narrative doubles it. Wonderful.

Great image. Easy to relate to because we have all been strangers in another city at one time or another.

So much goin on in this shot--people looking at who knows what, light from everywhere, shadows, the list is endless. City life with all its action and motion, its constant activity--you caught it perfectly here!!

This rather reminds me of Plymouth, although it is years since I last saw anything like a large city! I do like the use of glass here - or anywhere really. It tends to offset the claustraphobic feel of built up areas. Smashing capture. ^=^
