Description

Chip’s been after me to post this picture for a year-and-a-half; I’m not sure why I haven’t before now. It’s one of those that seems to get lost in the shuffle: kinda like one of those bands that you really like: you forget that you like them, then you hear them on the radio and remember that you like them… So, anyway, this is another one of those lucky light and shadow shots I get every now and then. It was made on the Lawrence Avenue Bridge over the Chicago River on the obviously bright and sunny afternoon of February 20th, 2008.

Hey, that title sounds familiar! :-) I really like this picture and yeah, I'm glad you're finally posting it. The details are nice and rich and the play of light and shadow, shadow and form, form and...well...stuff really works well together. I love those lines and the almost-but-not-quite jumble of everything. Great work. Hmmm...and this day looks like the exact same day in Prague...On February 20, 2008, I was busy freezing my tuckus off in Prague...it's nice to know it was actually colder in Chicago. Anyway...this is a fantastic shot.

I love shadows and this is one amazing shadow! It looks like a carpet laid out, though the footing looks a little treacherous. Excellent shadows on the fence itself too, and on the big stone...thing at the end. Beautiful shapes, colors, detail, and light! Beautiful!

The shadows are nice and sharp which speaks of a clear calm, though no doubt cold, day. I also notice a deep blue tint to them which reminds one of the true physical nature of shadows and the that of ambient lighting. There is a curious sense of calm in this scene, perhaps it is the sensation of cold. The time of day must be close to sunset for the shadows to be so long. People are likely just finding their way home from a busy day and are attempting to wind down and escape the cold.

I can see why he was on your behind to post this. What a great capture! I love seeing a reflection or a shadow that shows more of the "original" thing than the original does. A perfect capture and an absolute delight! When I clicked this open I actually clapped with glee ... it's a knockout!

That's another great title, and not just because I'm a Babylon 5 fan! What really makes this for me is that initially I focused on the contrasting shadows/sunlit areas, then I focused on the snow and footprints, and it just started shifting more and more for me. There's so many contrasting elements, I'm glad that Chip finally convinced you to post this, it's a great shot.

tremendous, corey, the clarity of hue and the luminous quality throughout are terrific. For the angle alone, it's a fine shot---the natural play of lines & shadow from your angled pov. But the blues & whites & shadow tones are so vivid and yet soft: It shimmers & yet it's soft...It has that off-the-cuff feeling you get in your photography, but it also feels beautifully 'architectural', beautifully designed. Very clear & beautiful, and the street (going back) yields to a beautiful inward blue. I'm surrounded by "picturesque" views everywhere...you make the everyday in this city into real works of art. Fine work all around.
