Hi, I'm Lucinda
The photo was taken with my new Canon EOS 450D (with a tamron 18-200mm lense), by me in the mirror. It's a little overexposed, but at my age, that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Bare Bones Bio:
I was born in Louisiana, USA in 1956, youngest of four girls. In 1967 we all moved to New Jersey when my father was transferred. I've always loved to read and soon gravitated towards Sci Fi, Fantasy, and nonfiction (mostly English History). The last was influenced by watching Masterpiece Theatre. I had the opportunity to go to the UK and Greece on 10 day Easter trips through my high school, which instilled in me an itch to travel. After one year of college,(I learned a lot, but unfortunately not much from my professors and text books) I joined the Air Force and went to Japan and England. I married a fellow GI (Bill), in England, got out of the Air Force (Bill stayed in)and went back to the States. Bill and I then lived in Rancho Cordova, California (where we had our first son, Charles),
Biloxi, Mississippi (where we had our second son, James), Oxfordshire, UK (For me, thank you Bill), and San Antonio, Texas (where we live now). Bill is retired from the Air Force and drives a Big Rig for J. B. Hunt. I am an office manager for a carwash. Charles and James graduated last May from University of Texas at San Antonio and Texas A&M at College Station respectively. Yeah!!!
Interests:
Reading - Mostly nonfiction history, though I have widened the field somewhat. I also like journals and diaries and have been reading "The Diary of Samuel Pepys" on and off for a while now. I'm currently on Vol. VII 1666. (I haven't gotten to the great fire yet). My fiction tends to run to fantasy, Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett, and Neil Gaiman to name a few.
Music - I grew up on rock, folk, musicals, classical, and Gilbert and Sullivan. I still love all that and have added jazz, blues, bluegrass, celtic and a little country. I don't play any instruments and can't sing (the singing talent in our family seemed to lessen with each new sister and I'm the baby of the bunch), but I'm an enthusiastic listener.
Art (Drawing, Photography and Oil Painting) - One of the regular pastimes of my sisters and I growing up was paper dolls. We used typing paper to make swimsuit clad paper dolls with pattern book heads. Then we spent countless hours drawing and coloring clothes for them. Depending on the current story, they could be clothes from Regency England, Colonial America, or Star Trek. I also drew faces from the hairdo magazines and was happy if they looked fairly human. I now draw and have recently taken up oil painting. I'm a definite amateur at photography. I've taken pictures since the mid 70s when I went to Japan, but they are mostly of my travels, kids and cats. I've got a lot to go through to see which ones are worth posting. I bought my first digital camera last April (09) for my birthday (I ordered it in April, received it in May, for my birthday in June. (I don't believe in being too literal about such things) I bought PhotoShop in June. I've still got a lot to learn on both, but it's a lot of fun.
Other - My sister Gail and I love The Teaching Company lectures. We both buy history, I occasionally buy literature and she occasionally buys math and science and we watch each other's. I'm also a tad fond of cats.
I could gush, and probably have, about all the talent I see on RR. I find myself using the words wow and beautiful far too much. I guess I should pull out the Thesaurus.ÂÂ

These are Canada geese (not Canadian I am cautioned to add). Just what we need, more illegal aliens, oh wait, the election is over. Never mind. They look well fed. Does Scrooge know about these guys? Christmas is just around the corner. Very cool image. One looks like its posing and other is giving you attitude (you lookin' at me?). Fingers crossed, no cavities.

SOOO cute those two seeing here together. A lovely couple, Lucinda. I like this picture very much, also with the textures and shadow in it. Good luck with your dentist. ('Before you know it's already done')

First of all Lucinda, this is such a cool way to start the day with a visit to your gallery. Looking at the upload it instantly made me realize this is an important one as it is your 200th so CONGRATULATIONS :) So nice to see you've returned to that first day in New York and hopefully you have several pics yet from your trip to share with us. This one is cute and says so much about you as a person because your first day there finds you searching out something adorable to photograph. Thanks for the smile :)

I love the vibe of this! I happen to like geese...ducks...and any other sort of dinosaur-shaped bird. These two look so regal, healthy, and quite large! I'll be they're heavy too! I'm always amazed at seeing them walking around, acting goose-ish and doing goos-ish things, and then I think of their size and that they tend to fly vast, vast distances. Amazing. Anyway, enough of that...this is a fantastic pair. I love your use of light and shadow and the way that the colors are so nicely subtle. There's great variety in the colors, but you have to actually pause, take a moment, and live in that moment fully with the photograph without people yammering and clamoring for their attention. I think that's what really works the best in this photo...those hidden details. I especially like the band of blue across the top: your only reference to sky and water and it's all in the same thing. Really well seen and presented. I like this a lot.

Those arer not Canada Geese, they are Dual Citizen Geese!

you know, I realize that because you're in the middle of the alphabet, you're in the letters that I get to at the end of my commenting. ("Pardon me?" you ask. I'll explain. I don't go by ebots, 'cause---as you may know---when you're absent a long time, saving ebots requires the State of New Jersey for storage. So I look at everything as it comes in, but then go to the frontpage of each gallery when I finally comment. In other words, I save URL's for everyone I want to see, and go to each gallery & choose as many images as time allows. And guess what? You're in the middle of those URLs. Why is that significant? ((I hope I'm not boring you to tears...)) Because I tend to go to A's and then to Z's, then B's and then to Y's, etc. So M's are last. Teams of scientists have tried to figure it out my method, but they haven't...So: I decided that, next time, I'll start with "M" and then you'll be first. I know that's so earth shattering you'll probably retire, but at least I explained. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming...) By my calculations, this is image 200. Did anyone notice? Yes! DAVE noticed! Leave it to our resident guardian angel to know these things! And what a lovely 200: A delightful capture of geese. Partly because of the random postures---they're both looking to our right even though they both face different directions. And partly because you gave us a background that has similar hues & patterns to the geese. Very nice harmony! They really do harmonize. I'm told that geese are a major nuisance in cities, because they eat up parks, leave excrement everywhere, and don't exactly sound like Luciano Pavarotti...But they're beautiful birds; and when you see them fly in formation, they're formidable. Delightfully captured (most visible full size), and a huge congratulations for 200! Yours is a wonderful, rich, varied and loving gallery. And I didn't know there was any lake in Queens. Shows you how little I know...

Very nice shot

I'm surprised these guys didn't attack you for getting so close. They are a lovely plump couple. I especially love the dappling of shadows from some unforeseen tree that I know is there. I like the way that just a little bit of the water shows to give us the feel for the surroundings as well. It all adds to the beauty and story of this great shot. Excellent work again.
