The crew didn't have time to react, nor the semi-intelligent ship. It was as if the asteroid came from another dimension and punched a hole right though the living quarters of the ship.

Perhaps it wasn't an asteroid but an intelligent life form that objected to having his space being shared ! If they sealed off the living quarters then it looks like everyone on the bridge and in engineering as well as decks 8 thru 12 were saved !!! Great colors and flow !!!
