I attempted a deliberate "derailment" or "bait and switch" here. Hard to tell if I pulled it off. If you think the first three frames could be cut, the answer is probably no.
The rumor was that musician Kim Deal (from the Pixies and/or Breeders) used to touch up her roots with shoe polish instead of hair dye. Note that young Kelly in this strip did NOT mention she was wearing a wig...

Looks like Kelly is trying to invite herself, and blows it with the cigarette thing. Nice work - this really gave me a chuckle. I recognize the situation with younger sibblings trying to go along with older sibblings just to feel "big", when the older wants to be with friends and not be chaperoned by a younger "tattle-tale". Keep up the good work - I really appreciate your social insights! :-)
