Callirrhoe (J Callirrhoe XVII), also known as Callirhoe, is a natural satellite of Jupiter. It was discovered in 1999 (hence its temporary designation S/1999 J 1). It was first listed as an asteroid, designated 1999 UX18, but Timothy B. Spahr realized he was actually a moon of Jupiter.
It belongs to the group of Pasiphae, consisting of irregular moons orbiting Jupiter and retrograde at distances between 22.8 and 24.1 million km and slopes ranging from 144.5 ° to 158.3 °.
It derives its name from the daughter of Achelous, the wife of Alcmaeon. When the latter was killed by the father of his first wife, Callirrhoe begged Zeus to make her adult children so they could avenge their father, and Zeus gave him.
