Description

Everything in this scene is available for free here and at Sharecg.com I just had a ton of fun putting it all together and was thrilled when it looked like a screen capture when i was done. I hope the fans of the movie will like viewing this as much as I liked making it.

This looks really, really great! One thing: there are no pilots in the gunship cockpits! ;) And another thing that jumps into focus for me more and more as I look at flyby stills: to make them totally realistic one would have to play with motion blur. I know, I also decide sometimes not to use it, even if I could. It takes the extra work to make a mini-animation that actually moves stuff, the extra time for the test renders to see if the blur is right and the extra time to have the number cruncher compute the whole stuff. And then you get something that leaves you torn between two goals: you want realism and you want to actually "see" the details of your great scene. The sad truth is that the sense of motion comes at a huge price: first all the work to put the scene together and then all the blurring that makes all the detail invisible again. But it DOES look real... Okay, great still, totally cool scenerey. I so totally understand why you wouldn't blur all this... ;)

I actually did use a motion blur but I used it to simulate exhaust from the engines of two foremost vehicles. As for the pilots I don't have the system resources necessary to have that many pilots although about an hour after i posted this I did find some low res pilots I could have used and probably will use them in future renders. Thanks for all the great comments everyone.
