Description
This morning we brought Hetty's life to a dignified end. She had stopped eating, her heart murmur was a 5 out of 6 and she was no longer really enjoying a walk. It all happened in the last fortnight, and I decided to do the deed while she was still comfy and in no distress.
Please don't feel sorry for me, I am not sentimental, and in fact I feel most relieved not to have the stress of the constant worry about her welfare.
I took this picture yesterday with her boys. They came with me to the vets, and we gave them the body to sniff as it is important that they know she's dead.
Only Fritz was really interested, and he too seems relieved as he has been concerned about her for the last few days.
Ralph continues to heal well after the wound sustained during the murder he committed. The victim donated us a few fleas, so on with the systemic parasite killer!

I am sorry to hear that Hetty is no longer with you, but I believe that the separation is only temporary. Ralph, Fritz and Buster will also miss her - you will all keep each other company. Beautiful portrait of your family. You are lucky...

You're lucky not to be too sentimental with your charges; I get so attached that it's incredibly traumatic when these things happen. I'm glad Hetty had such a full and happy life; she was a sweet little lady!

Andrea, I understand what you say. I always let my animals see the one who has gone so they don't look for them. My vet comes to the house though. Take care & glad Ralphie is getting there.

What a beautiful portrait of Hetty and the boys! Thanks for letting us know about the old girl. I remember the first time I saw her photo ... she was on a boardwalk in the pleasure gardens, I believe, telling you it was time to quit poking around and come ON. Such a personality! :) I shall miss her.

Wonderful portrait of the group. It always shakes me up to have to put my pet down, but at least you had some warning. It is worse when there is no warning, as with one of mine a few years ago. Hetty had a great life with you, and there is no doubt she now is looking down protectively on her family.
