A very impressive, dreamy image. You can sense her longing as she gazes out the window, wondering if today will be the day that her lover will -- at last -- return from his mistress, the Sea. The little touches around the room really set the scene for me. The globe, the chair, the books carefully set upon the table tell the tale that she is not a student, but merely a woman passing time until her man returns at last. I must admit, that at first glance, I thought she was waiting for her father, but then I saw the sunlight pass through her dress and realized that no respectful daughter would be waiting without suitable petticoats or a slip beneath her skirts. I would suggest two minor changes to tighten up the composition. First, the chandelier is too bright; the rest of your composition is designed to pull our eyes to the right, toward her by the window. But the chandelier is fighting for our attention, trying to pull our eyes back to the left. In some cases, this sort of tension can be exciting and help convey a sense of urgency, but here it is just distracting us from a very quiet, very personal scene that should be intimate. We should have the feeling that we have just entered the room and see her standing there, framed like an angel in front of the window. So beautiful.. and so in love with someone else. The second thing I would suggest is very minor: darken the wood on the table beneath the books. A darker foreground would also help tighten up your composition and pull our eyes toward her. As I hope you can tell, I'm VERY impressed by your work here. Thanks so much for posting it.
