Someone told me
It's all happening at the zoo.
I do believe it,
I do believe it's true.
~ Simon and Garfunkel
I finally found a place where the animals could not run away from me when I tried to take their pictures. The Portland Zoo is an enormous park located on the west side of town. If the animals have to be locked up this is as good as it gets. Each one lives in a large enclosure that mimics as closely as possible their natural habitat.
My first stop was the Lorikeet aviary. These birds are semi-tame and will take snacks from you hand. Snacks are conveniently available for purchase just outside the area. They can be quite tender with each other but will sometimes squabble over the snacks as evidenced by the two arguing with each other while clinging to a woman’s back. A park employee had to rush in and rescue the poor woman.

Great images! They're very pretty, and it's interesting to see them interacting with people in ... ummm ... different ways. :)

Oh, this looks like SO much fun! They are real characters...our friend in Adelaide, Australia has a pair and she shares pics from time to time. Plus they come to her yard like sparrows do here at times. Nice shots!

What a wonderful place! I'd love to get this close to such lovely creatures, even if it did mean a risk of a rather sharp encounter. Superb captures of their beauty and antics. Excellent color and detail. I love the image of the man. He looks like he would sit there forever if the birds wanted him to. I love his expression, totally involved with watching the birds.
