Description
Volume I - Episode 35
Where: Niagara Falls, Canada
When: 11 years, 11 months and 4 days before E-Day, 1:32 pm
Water thundered over the Horseshoe Falls, drenching the Maid of the Mist VI tour boat below. Tourists crammed the decks, laughing and shouting with delight as they snapped blurry, mist-ruined photos of the Falls that towered over them.
"Prenez ma photo, ma tante Patricia!" the little girl shouted, giggling as she steadied herself on the boat's slippery starboard deck. Take my photo, Aunt Patricia!
Aunt Patricia cupped her hand to her ear, pretending not to have heard her seven-year-old niece's request.
"S'il vous plait?" the little girl asked, clasping her hands together and smiling broadly. Please?
Satisified with her niece's manners, Aunt Patricia wiped the mist off the lens of her disposable Kodak camera and raised it to her face. "Smile!" she shouted, straining to be heard over the roar of the enormous waterfall less than 50 metres away.
The little girl smiled her biggest smile. The noise, the laughter, the sheer excitement of being so close to one of the world's greatest and most powerful natural wonders - she had never felt so alive in her life.
Aunt Patricia took the photo.
But nobody would ever see it.
