Description

“Coradia Nordic” X61 The X 61 “Coradia Nordic” is a commuter train set manufactured by Alstom, France, in Saltzgitter, Germany, and Sweden. It is a shorter, 4 car variant of the X60 used in the greater Stockholm area. Start of manufacture 2009, first delivery March 2010 for testing. Start of regular scheduled runs August 16, 2010. 18 sets built by December 2010, 59 more sets are ordered. 4 car electric set, 74.3 meters long. The three central (of the sets five) boggies/trucks are shared by the four cars, making for lower costs and a smoother ride. 155 tons 15,000 volts, 16 2/3 Hz, 2000 kiloWatts. Max speed 160 km./hour (100 miles per hour), usual speed is 130 km./hour (81 miles per hour). 234 seats Run by Skånetrafiken (traffic system of the province of Skåne, south Sweden). I've had the opportunity to ride this train Monday to Thursday this week for a pass costing 10:- Swedish crowns ($1.25!). They are quite quiet, smooth running, light and comfortable. Travel time from Triangle station to the Malmö central station is 3 minutes, 10 seconds – fast and convenient. The upper left photo shows the coupling of two train units, taken at Triangle station. The upper right photo is of the same train, taken at Malmö underground station. The lower left photo is of the cab interior with controls – front window is to the left. The lower right photo is from the passenger compartment, which runs through all four cars. Note the TV monitors in the ceiling, showing travel information, weather, news and entertainment. The orange paneled sections mark the exit doors. The flash is reflecting off something in the drivers cab. Regular service (and ticket prices) is to start next week, when all computerized train control systems, switches and signals between the City Tunnel and the tracks in Malmö rail yard are functional. Enjoy! Photographed at Triangle and Malmö stations on December 5, 2010. Fujifilm A303 digital camera

Beautiful collage. Dutch Railways operates a series of about 100 trains that look very much the same especially the inside.

The drivers cab looks like something out of Star Trek!..I think I've said it before but...you make rail travel interesting, however...like Rob, I can't see me getting too excited by it in Britain.

How'd I miss this??? What a fabulous, ultra modern train. The controls look rather simple...but then it doesn't have to fly:)
