Description

Australia's home-grown "emergency" fighter, the CAC Boomerang was designed, built and flown in a matter of months in the dark days of 1942- when just for a moment it looked like there would be no cavalry coming to save the day... The signature "pineapple" flame suppressor was added as an afterthought (having the cockpit glass lit up by the flaming exhuast blinded the pilot during night landings). Built on the fly using engines intended for Bristol Beaufort bombers the Boomerang had some endearing qualities but couldn't mix it with modern front-line fighters. Pilots of the cannon-equiped Boomerangs actually found their niche down on the deck... negotiating the rugged, jungle-clad valleys of New Guinea, strafing and marking targets with smoke to draw in bombers. The aircraft reproduced here carry markings from operations on nearby Bouganville late in the war. Objects saved in Poser 8, imported into and rendered in Vue 8 Espirit. I modelled the Boomerang in Shade 8.5. Obviously, I've used the Beyond VR Liberty ship to add a contemporary look to the harbour background. The pilot is Apollo Maximus- with adh3d's fantastic USAAF pilot's suit - but if you could see that you'd be much too close!!! Thank you for viewing...

A remarkable aircraft, as you say built 'on the fly' all the more remarkable in a country with no indiginous aircraft industry.Great render of a plane we don't see too often on Rendo.
