Description

Swaylone's Island is a mythical island from the novel “A Voyage to Arcturus” by David Lindsay. The Island, at the time the story unfolds, was inhabited by Earthrid. Earthrid was in a line of succession following the original inhabitant, Swaylone. Swaylone was the unfortunate pawn in a contest between two gods each of whom professed the ability to create more perfect music. The result (manifested by Swaylone and all his successors) was the obsessive playing of music so beautiful that all who heard it died in ecstasy. Furthermore, those who travelled to Swaylone's Island to hear it knew that they would die as a result, but considered death worth the price. The Island was described as being ~ominously beautiful~ The appearance of the Island was very vividly portrayed in the novel and I have depicted it here as I envision it. The dominant component in the image, although it intentionally does not look the part, is a second power Juliabulb. The effect is achieved by merging some of the bulb Raytrace parameters. This image is fantastic Stan. There are so many factions of this image that are gorgeous, but for me the large glass orbs become the central focus and what draws my attention. Your background story is amazing. The island sounds like it would be lovely to visit, but I would suggest wearing ear defenders so you dont hear the music. Actually visiting such a place might not be that attractive, if everyone that visits there dies from the music, there must not be anyone cleaning up the corpses, or the workers would die too. Having to walk around all the dead people would detract from the beauty of the experience.

Fantastic image. I would like to see more of an anti-aliased or finished quality. Would make it even more impressive. Nice work!

A very wonderful fractal but I think I shall avoid this island for a while yet as I have lots more pictures to create even though the music must be amazing. I am amazed at how you do these in UF. I've never got close to achieving this depth and intricateness.

I can see Swaylone's face in the middle and two gods on each upper side holding their wands high in the air like a conductors of an orchestra, ready to strike a deadly note. Wonderful creation as always. V

Outstanding! I see the empire building twice on top, which it deserves. I love the great bubbles in the sky. A huge land of fantasy, also very rich colors and textures are in this land.
