Greetings to the people of Earth.
I've always wanted to say that! Now that I did, I can now get on with other things.
I'm a science fiction writer (not famous yet) born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. I've lived in the Czech Republic and Germany, and though I am currently back in Chicago, much of my heart remains in the Czech Republic. Maybe it's the beer. Or the bread. I hope to live in Moscow soon, as a big portion of my heart already resides there. I've had an interest in science fiction since an early age and will probably maintain that interest for the rest of my life. I love SF, and anything else that embraces the spirit of discovery...or anything that chafes against the arbitrary boundaries of "conformity."Â
I discovered Renderosity a couple of years back when I was browsing the internet, looking for cool images to spark my imagination during a period of writer's block. It wasn't a serious block, but I needed something to make me ask the sorts of questions that I always ask before settling down to craft a short story or novella. Since that time, I've written quite a lot and I've begun to post photographs and other visual works that I created here...partially because I love the Renderosity community in general, and partially because the images and text-snippets that I have contributed here are something of an ongoing journal. I'm incredibly lazy when it comes to journal keeping, and so posting picures of particular significance actually helps me to remember the things I want to remembe, without having to eat into my fiction writing time by writing non fiction. Well, at least that's my excuse and I am sticking with it.
I entered into the field of photography totally by accident; I'd always been interested in capturing small stories, but it wasn't until my journey to Europe that I began to consciously seek out tableaus that imply stories in progress. As a result of that, my writing is growing in unexpected directions, and I look forward to becoming more and more active here, and in other artistic/publishing fields.

For some reason, when I saw the title of this picture my musical brain started playing the Guess Who's "She's Come Undone". Love the title! This is a fascinating shot and I absolutely LOVE it! The colors, the detailing and the depth are great. That, and it's so frackin' INTERESTING that I just want to keep on staring at. Definately a favorite. Great work!

It's amazing to think of the subtle beauty in commonplace things that surround us. Such color, texture, and sheer beauty in a corroded old hinge. I wonder what stories it could tell us - if it could indeed tell us? Superb, Chip!

Amazing work as always, Chip. Love the "if there's a door there must be a room" theme.

I don't know which is better .. your thoughts painting the image .. or the image which led to the thoughts .. I think that they are so closely tied that one might not work without the other. Hmmm. That's not true, each is a work of art in it's own right .. but they do enhance each other. I love the image .. I love the colors and how they blend and merge and compliment. I have to come back tomorrow and read the Thetis tales .. I have a miserable cold, my eyes are closing and I'm going to go crash.

Even in metal, there is a circle of life. Beautiful image. Inspiring narrative. ^=^

A wonderful result and about time to post it Chip. :-) And I like the little story too.

This is a beautiful image, and not at all what I expected from the title. I thought maybe you'd been around Chicago's equivalent of London's Soho after midnight! Cropping is often the route to creating something special, and this is a perfect example. What strikes me most here is your brief yet compelling muse on rusty hinges - it's almost poetic, and I love the depth of thought that went into it. You're a romantic at heart! I haven't been commenting very much lately, but I'll be catching up on your gallery soon....

Awesome textures. Very nice details in this shot.

Fantastic shot Chip! It looks like a mixed media collage. The colors are outstanding and they are completely natural - go figure Ha! - I'm with Corey - instead of the Guess Who - I was thinking of Wally Lamb's book - She's Come Undone - love your narrative too!

I like old things and the history they imply. This is really wonderful, the colors are so rich, much like the fall colors so recently past.

I've always said that decay is nothing but life that we haven't accepted yet...this is full of life. Some of your images are so natural to you that when I see them, I think: Of course. It's part of what you do naturally. (And I see & read everything of yours, whether I comment often or not; I walk with everything.) The swirl of the blue inside all that rust & red & gold is wonderful: The blue's a fine focus point for the piece. And you've captured---and brought out, if your signature postwork is present---the texture of decay, of oxidation and probably many forms of microorganism, etc. It's a simple surface now turned into a massive city of microscopic process---change, change, change: That's life. And your hues are vivid, and it reminds me of a "night" shot: Like, if decay had a 'night out', this is what it would look like. Very fine work, Chip, once again. Fine seeing and, of course, reflections in your always poetic words...

I thought of the line, "I'm not crazy, I'm just a little impaired." from Matchbox 20. This hinge looks decidedly impaired but fascinating with wonderful colors and textures. In zoom the blue seems to sparkle like jewels. It was probably a fairly dull and unremarkable thing when It was still hanging out with the door. Gorgeous patterns and detail. Excellent shot!

Is this cross-processed or as-is? The colours are amazing, congrats!!!
