So I thought before I carry on modelling up those extra pieces I had in mind for this prop set, I thought I'd UV map and texture test what I have so far. Now, let me tell you, I at first thought this would be a straight forward task, how wrong I was.. My aim was to achieve a UV map without stretch anywhere! And I mean anywhere! This ruled out a variety of mapping options such as box mapping, as ultimately this would not line the UV's of the bevels edges up correctly, thus resulting in some pretty horric stretch. So box mapping out of the question I thought about flat mapping the various pieces of the prop, as from past experience I know this can result in a good stretch free map. So, what you see here is the result of 3 days SOLID uv mapping. I'm new to this whole UV mapping game, so I'm tending to learn via trial and error. The base stone alone, took me all of today to unwrap and rejoin creating a stretch free texture that wraps perfectly around the mesh. I got it wrong so many times and had to star from scratch time and time again. It's frustrating work, and I'm sure in time I will be able to find a quicker way of mapping, but I did aim for stretch free, and it was a painful and frustrating process let me tell you. Anyhow, enough of my pain, this is what I have so far. There is pattern work to put into the texture yet to make it appear the various aspects of the model are made from individual stones. So still a lot to do with regards to texture work. Thoughts as always welcome! Mike
