"In thirty years we built to the infinite sky" Brilliant (^_____^) LEGO Space was part of the great leap forward for the LEGO company in 1978, but the most iconic space ship of that giant leap called the Galaxy Explorer was not released until the next year. Some of the fans nowadays will call this "Classic Space". The first LEGO Space sets were a leap forward in LEGO design. Compared to the LEGO Company's previous releases of spaceflight-related sets (only 3 in total if i recall correctly) this new theme of sets boasted new parts and building techniques previously unseen. Although plenty of basic bricks were used, there were now parts with finer detail used in smoother-looking ships and multi-purpose vehicles. This where also the first sets that used grey blocks on a large scale, becomming one of the major colors used in the Lego-palette. The blue-grey color pattern would be used until the introduction of Futuron and Blacktron sets in 1987. A few sets with white spaceships with blue canopies where released but they where never a great succes compared to the blue-grey models. With the introduction of the Futuron and Blacktron sets in 1987 came an end the first Lego Space era.
