Description

Taken last April in Manhattan, New York City. When I went looking on Google Maps for the two buildings which dominate the scene, I got confused. As I was heading up 11th street, they kept disappearing on me. One minute they were there, then I double clicked on the arrow and they were gone. It turned out that they were completed in the summer of 2009, and I guess some of the Google street views were from before that time. I took this as Leslie and I were crossing the street. Just as we started to cross I saw the tall buildings to my right and took a quick capture. I didn't see the man until I looked at my image later. The two blue looking buildings are named The Silver Towers and are residential buildings. I had to reboot my laptop recently, and have been using a previous post to go through, comment, and resave my list. So there has been no rhyme or reason to the order I've been commenting of late. I hope to finish getting to everyone's galleries this weekend. I've been looking as I get ebots at everyone's beautiful work. Thanks for viewing, and for comments and favs!

This is a wonderful capture Lucinda, and these Silver Towers really are a site to behold. Thanks for the entertaining story about your adventures with google maps and trying to find them, it gave me a much needed smile tonight. As for the man standing there it appears he has a purpose. Maybe he's wanting to sell you a old fashioned map to help you get to the towers ;)

Oh, so that explains it....I was wondering where your comments were vis-a-vis my postings. Anyway, a nicely framed photo of the twin Silver Towers standing amidst the hustle and bustle of NYC. Lots of activity, clarity, depth, patterns and textures in this pic, Lucinda. It sure looks claustrophobic out there. And what was that dude doing out there in the middle of the street staring at you? Could be he'd also appear and disappear just like the Silver Towers.

Ah yes...NYC...what a photographer's Mecca. Even though I grew up 20 miles from the city, I've never taken a photograph there. Need to fix that one of these days:)

This is a rather unusual for me (I come from a 5-storey house is already huge, probably a hotel). Put in place, this man, I feel like Tarzan, snatched from the jungle! I must say, however, has considerable charm!

WOW ! Impressing mega buildings. A little scary too, I think, but I find the over all picture very beautifully captured. I also like the man on the street.

Warner Towers was my first thought too (when I googled blue skyscrapers NYC) but it didn't quite fit where I was (near the piers). I found a place where I recognised the other buildings in my picture and saw the towers in the distance. When I followed them up and lost them, and then found them, and found out they were new. Both pairs of towers look very similar (at least to my untrained eye) but I'm pretty sure these are The Silver Towers.

These towers look very impressive in this excellent capture. I wonder what details that chap is making a note of. Funny how things turn up in photos and often just finish them off.

I was born in NYC, haven't lived there in 40 years(geez, is that possible?) and haven't visited in 25. I wouldn't have a clue where I was there these days. I do remember as a kid what an intense vibe the place has(how could it not?)and walking around with my dad in his houndstooth jacket as he made endless shots with his numerous cameras. Love the depth of field in this shot and how you've captured the crowded density and hurly burly of a large American city. Great work.

The city that never sleeps. That's because if you do you might miss something. New York is the only city I've ever visited where I felt an actual electricity in the air, like something crackling. The spirit of the town is amazing. Very attractive buildings and, yes, the man makes the picture.

I have to check, but I wonder if the same architect(s) responsible for Chicago's Trump Tower have anything to do with these...I'm guessing that because of the silver coloration that tends to turn blue or sunset orange, depending on time of day. I love reflective towers like that and I love this shot...it's so deliciously urban and human. I love the fact that the guy with the clipboard is right there! It adds a nice human focus to an already nice image...actually it's more than a nice image. It has depth and drama and then on top of it all, there's a guy with a clipboard, RIGHT THERE! This is great.
