Description
In the twenty sixth year of the reign of King Carl IV of Aggada, it happened. Baron Vaul Berson conspired with Duke Alexander Tessa to assassinate the royal family, and put his son, married to Alexander's daughter, on the throne. A great mercenary army did they assemble. For they knew that they would also have to kill the nobles who supported the ruling House.
But five days before the arrival of the fleet that brought the army, The King was visited by Sarah, the youngest daughter of the Baron, and Maria, the youngest of the Duke's children. They told the King of the plot against him. King Carl immediately went into action.
So thus it was that the Royal Navy caught the twenty ships at sea. After a brief skirmish, the mercenaries surrendered. The King, being a good man, offered them a pardon if their leaders would testify against the conspirators. Seeing that the alternative was imprisonment or death, they readily agreed.
When they learned of their betrayal, the families launched a desperate attack, hoping to catch the Palace unaware. But they were doomed. The King's men, being outnumbered, hired the very soldiers who were to kill them, turning them against their former employers. After a night of bloody fighting, the traitors were taken.
The Baron and Duke, as well as their wives and the son and daughter who were to sit on the throne, were all executed after a brief trial. All that was left to do was to decide the fate of Sarah and Maria. The law said that the family of traitors must meet the same fate. But the King and the Duchess Anne Golden convinced the courts that the girls should be spared.
So they were sent into exile. Carl arranged for them to live at the Court of Alathar, ruler of the Elven Kingdom of Arrochar. There they lived for the rest of their lives, never returning to their homeland. The two became close over the years, drawn together by their shared experiences. But at times they missed Aggada. As a reward for their loyalty to the throne, and for their pain, the gods gave them a son. And he was a wonder.
Ranass was he named, Gift Of The Gods. Though he was small of stature, he grew to be a mighty wizard in the service of Alathar. But from an early age, he knew what he wanted more than anything: to wed the Dragon Queen. At first his mothers and Alathar humored him. But as the years unfolded, they saw that he truly intended to pursue his desire. So it was that the Elven King taught him to use the travel rings, and arranged for Ranass to meet her. Alathar had fought at the side of the former Queen's side in the Dragon War, so the young man was admitted to the Queen's Court.
And the rest is history.
