Description
I'm still trying to get a realistic looking chess set. I want one that looks like a photo. It's comes down to two things, lighting and texture. This has two lights, the main one to the left and a blue one to the right. I'm also using an HDRI but not illuminating from it. It's purely for the reflection.
As for the texture, it's a built in Carrara one, but I used a texture for the bump mapping and played around for a LONG time. It's getting closer.
The chessboard is a scan of my real chess set. It's not the main focus, so I don't think it's a huge cheat. :-)
Chess pieces were made in Wings3D. Carrara 8 render and postwork with Alienskin filters in CS2.
Thanks for looking.

Nice composition, textures, and lighting. Luvvvvvvvv the DOF. THe kings crown is an interesting touch. Didn't like it at first glance, then it won me over as a fresh approach to the things that have been around since Camelot(or something. All in all about the best chess render for quite some time. ps Congrats on the Artiste of zee Month!!
