Description

DAY TWO: Mechanoids. Well they don't actually feature in this story, but they appeared in a number of Dalek comic strips and annuals throughout the sixties. Allegedly created by Terry Nation as another possible robot toy franchise, the Mechanoids debut appearance was in the 1964 serial The Chase starring William Hartnell. The Mechanoids were originally conceived as terraforming colony building robots sent out from Earth to prepare planets for eventual human settlement. Somehow something went wrong along the way and instead they became a demented race of killer robots bent on universal domination. They were also the Daleks sworn enemies and although they never appeared on the TV again (the enormous props they used for the TV series not being great at navigating around the tiny corridors at the Beeb's sound stages) they enjoyed a tremendous career in the budget free world of the comic strips. In 2005 they were revived for the Big Finish Audio 'The Juggernauts' starring Terry Molloy as Davros. Original Juggernaut mesh by Adam Bullock, adapted by me.
