Description

Working through my revisions into Songbird ReMix3 format has given me the chance to revisit a lot of older birds I've done (and do some fairly nice images of them). This roller for instance got reshaped and has a new texture, and now actually looks like a roller  I think this roller would give any imagery bird a run for it's money in a fantasy render. The colors you've think are exaggerated, but believe it or not, they are accurate. I hope to have the SBRM Africa revisions under the tree in time for Christmas. About the Bird... The Lilac-breasted Roller is found in East Africa and lives on insects, lizards and an ocassional crab. They are bold and confidant; often swooping down on to prey from high perches. They are acrobatic flyers often rolling to the right or left 4 to 5 times with tucked wings within a couple seconds at a very fast speed, hence the name “Rollers”. Light and temperature make the feather colors of this bird from brighter or duller, depending on the weather. Rollers will often lay on ant nests, allowing ants to cover its body. The ants remove parasites and scales from its feathers. Rendered in Poser Pro with minor post in Painter. Model: Woodland cyc, African Village (DAZ), Safari Camp, Fig Branch, SBRM Africa (me)

Beautiful Ken! I loved seeing these gorgeous creatures when I was in Africa in 04. They are SO stunning and their "rolling" is wild to watch! We were riding through a large open plain filled with giant termite mounds and there were several of them dancing in the air around us - very magical. Fab job as always!
