Mother and Son on the move in the snow In the dunes between Noordwijk and Zanvoort (see my recent posting) there is a large herd of cows, including some impressive bulls. This herd is wandering around, freely, the whole year around in this area. The animals are very friendly and not aggressive at all, but they keep a bit of a distance but you still can touch them (but it is better for them to leave them alone). With this cold they like the hands of humans because they are looking for salts. Their function is to maintain the area, to keep the grass under control and other small plants as well. They are not used for the production of milk nor meat. It’s a joy to wander around in this special winter landscape, with an amount of snow which not common for us at all in the Netherlands, certainly not so early in the winter season and that it last for days and not for just a day or less.
