Description
The main mode of transportation in the star system Sol, a dozen or so centuries on, the Gravship achieves NSOL locomotion by means of an energy-converting drive mechanism that allows it to overcome the normal problems encountered in approaching the speed of light. The ship extracts power from the sunlight by means of its solar sail, which can be retracted for navigation through hazardous territory. However, because of the size and energy requirements of the conversion core, the ship does not contain onboard propulsion units; rather, it moves by means of latching onto a gravity source and pulling itself toward it (the blue streaks of energy in this image are due entirely to the artist's imagination; in reality there would be no visible discharge of energy). In order to facilitate travel between the planets of Sol, special grav bouys have been anchored at regular intervals along the space lanes.

This is the main transportation class space vessel in the Sol War sci-fi series that I'm trying to write. In order to prepare for the actual writing, I'm making 3d storyboards of significant scenes. Deciding on the precise design for this ship was problematic, and it went through several evolutions before I decided on this final form.

Secret tip: if you use html tags as br, i, etc. these do formating necessary for such long text.

But what if I want you to slog through reams of incoherent pseudoscience in order to get to the meat of the matter? ;)
