I hope all of you survived the holidays...at least so far :) And I truly hope that my version of Santa that I posted the last time I was here didn't visit you :p I'm happy you liked the painting though and thank you for comments and cheers :D
The painting above is a bit more close to reality since it is my grandson. I don't paint or draw family members mainly because it's so darn difficult. But my grandson I've only seen in photo's so far, and since he's more of a toddler than a baby today, he's a bit easier to use as a model :)
His mom posted some photo's of him a while back and the blog post was called Blue Diamonds (I think). And it referred to his very blue eyes.
One of the photo's of him reminded me of the paintings called The Crying Boy. They were very popular in the end of the 70's and beginning of the 80's, and the models in those paintings were always crying boys or girls. You could buy these as reproductions at least in Europe at the time, but I'm not sure about other places.
Anyway...this painting turned into something like that even though it wasn't my intention to begin with. I realized the color were similar when it was done. The only thing missing is the tears, which I could have added...but Alexander wasn't really sad. More contemplating the situation when his mom took a photo of him I think.
So that's what I've got for today :D I was planning on posting this before the holidays, but there wasn't any time :(
Instead I'll wish you all a Happy New 2011!!

It's such a pity that you have to make a living - and don't have more time to devote to your painting. Outstanding portrait!
