Our radio as a kid was about 4 feet tall with a drop lid. Inside was a turn table. It played 78s but it also had a setting for 45s and 33 1/3s. We had more 78s than anything. :-) There was a switch inside too that changed it from a record player to a radio and if we weren't listening to The Big Band sounds on 78s, we listened to the stories or songs from the 40s on the radio. I'd love to have something like this though. That old record player/radio of ours finally needed tubes replaced that we couldn't find so it was junked...

I SECOND the above comments of Mrs.Lubner .... I'm 59 .... I also remember 8 TRACK MUSIC TAPES and QUADROPHONIC (4 channel stereo sound). I grew up listening to my late father's old VINYL records: 78 RPM, 45 RPM & 33 1/3rd RPM. I also watched the '3' NETWORK t.v. stations in BLACK & WHITE until I got a small COLOR set when I moved out on my own in 1970. And, I carried around a 9 volt BATTERY small 'transistor' radio as a high school kid listening to the AM radio stations back in 'the day'. WINK.
