Description

To gain a few pounds! When I created this image, it was to be a tongue in cheek, funny render. After I had created it and put it in the upload folder, I read the news about a model who passed away; Isabelle Caro. She died @ 28 years old from complications they think from Anorexia. Her real claim to fame was when she posed for an Italian Advertising campaign to raise awareness of the disease. the campaign and images were banned because it was thought that it exploited the illness. this image, then is a dedication to the fight against anorexia and other eating disorders and a tribute to the lady who dared to show the reality of the disease. Rest In Peace, Isabelle Cora

A great tribute with that powerful and distrubing composition ... anorexia is an horrible desease and is not always due to the desire of being slimmer ... everyone can be touched by it at any age ...

Excellent dedication Mike! You are acknowledging a very very destructive illness. It also is one of the hardest there is to treat. I have worked with (m0stly) young women, although it is not affecting females only. The pressure society and families put on women to be thin is unmerciless, if they have even the slightest predispositon to poor self esteem or are seeking out acceptance from parents or others that are perfectionists, it leads to a very unhealthy obession with getting skinny. To the point they have a totally distorted image of themselves. I've worked with a girl that weighed 86 pounds and was basically just skin covering her bones, she had numerous problems where her organs were slowly shutting down and her body was depleteing the little muscle she had to reabsorb protein, and yet when she stood infront of a mirror all she could see was a terribly obese view of herself. With intense treatment and support over years (not months) this can be treated successfully but far too many times it is too little too late. I thank you for recognizing this illness for the scourge it is and offering this platmorm just to help make the public think a little about how each of us contribute to it. The public obsession with dieting and thiness just reinforces the mindset that creates this illness.

Holy CRAP that's kinda creepy! I've done that kinda thing before too. I often wonder what's up with coincidences like that. I really wish we could all just like one another for who we are, faults, foibles, follies and all.

It's a very sad situation. These young women want so desperately to live but this thing is an addiction they have a hard time breaking. A touching dedication.

Thank you. Most people tend to think that most "eating disorders" are just "all in their head." And the victims are sometimes punished for having the disorder, so they rarely try to get help. Because Lee (my wife) has major intestinal problems she has been very often forced to be examined by psychologists before the medical doctors would treat her, believing that her malnutrition was an eating disorder rather than what it is (chronic idiopathic intestinal pseudo-obstruction - which mainly means that her intestines aren't working right and causing her intense pain and problems eating). She's been accused of having anorexia many times, and once her home-care nurse tried to have her committed, which wasted an afternoon of our time on one of Lee's last good days (we were planning on going out and seeing a movie and her condition has worsened such that this has never happened). And yes, I believe that women especially are put under such strain to fit into the "perfect" body image, which is foolish.

Once upon a time, I had anorexia. I really feel for this lady. A really nice tribute. I hope others learn from her mistakes. It's a terrible mindset and very detrimental. Good dedi.
