Description

Esmee hated war. She hated the killing, the destruction, the waste of lives and resources. She had attained the rank of Warrior First Class in the Terran Defense Force, and this was not an easy thing to accomplish. She had attained this rank because she was very good at her job. But that didn’t mean she enjoyed it. Esmee realized it was sometimes necessary. There were dark and evil forces out there. There were wicked and cruel men who did not feel the way she did. They would stop at nothing to kill her, her family, her friends because she did not believe the same way they did. She did not worship the same way, or hold to their beliefs. They would go to any length to kill those they considered unholy – even sacrificing themselves as human bombs in order to kill as many ‘unbelievers’ as they could. Yes, it was sometimes necessary to go to war; it was sometimes necessary to kill. But that doesn’t mean she gets any pleasure out of it. She would much prefer to spend cool evenings with a warm, soothing mug of coffee, and pleasant times with her friends. She felt the cool breeze caress her face as she prepared for tomorrow’s mission in her retreat in the mountain country. She always found it somewhat annoying listening to those who had never seen combat refer to it as ‘romantic’ or ‘glorious.’ She smiled a sardonic smile to herself. The closest any of them have come to actual combat is watching the sanitized video clips, carefully scrubbed of anything ‘politically incorrect’ by the political-corporate controlled popular media. How she would relish the chance to show them what it was really like; to take them along on a mission. “They would be puking their guts out the first time they saw what a ten-thousand watt burst of directed energy delivered in the space of a thousandth of a second did to organic flesh.” She thought to herself. Yes, tomorrow would be another mission. The transport would arrive promptly at 0500 hours to pick her up. The holodisplay would provide an enroute mission briefing delivered by someone safe in an office thousands of miles away. Then they would land, and again the carnage would begin. But for now, for this all too brief moment, she could let her mind wander to times of peace. Times she hoped would come. The sooner the better. Because Esmee hated war. Background rendered in Bryce 7, comosited in Photoshop 7. Main scene rendered in Poser 8, lighting by me. Thanks to everyone who spends a few moments viewing my images. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoy creating them! your comments, ratings, faves and support are very much appreciated!

Wow, it is always a pleasure to comment on your work, Rod. How nice it is too to be on the front seat of comments area LOL. There is just something between you and those gals. You both like nice looking big guns. Bravo-Zulu to a job well done, Rod!

Wow, Rod! The lighting looks so good in this scene, great positioning of the point making the fire seem real and casting nice dramatic shadows over your scene. The room looks so real - great positioning and use of props and Esmee is beautiful! Love the background - I'm really going to have to learn Bryce to get some new skies I think. All the lightdomes I try just don't cut it! The story is compelling - in every age I think we will have those who take things to extremes, sad to say, but something that ties humanities thread together. Solid work, my friend! Delaney

Rod...was just about to comment on the latest TNA episode and up comes Esmee:) The story is intriguing and the render superb. You must have very creative thought processes always leading you on! [ok...back to TNA and the girls talking to Felicita:)]

Yeah, I agree with the rest up there, the lighting really looks good here, I like the contrast in color between the warm hued interior and cooler darker outdoor tones. OK, enough of that artsy-fartsy talk...guns and boobs woowoo!!!

I was drawn to the lighting right off the bat. Actually, I noticed it when it was up on Bill's monitor and I was doing something totally different! It reached out and grabbed me from ... oh ... about three feet away. When I brought it up over here ... WOW!!! Outstanding work, my friend!

excellent storybit mate. and a nice description of a "warrior"with honor. problem nowadays for the warriors is ,they get send into mission by mouthfarters, who have seen battle on a screen only and never smelled death or rotten intestines and shit flying around. i never have seen war (except my internal ones)and i am grateful for that.i think it changes everything. war only serves a few and brings misery to a lot. but then wars might have to be fought biut not the way it is in todays time. like . what will i get out of it if i slapthis one first?'or shall i keep using him and kill his neighbour first. and of course the bad-baddies and good-baddies game is bs. dictar X has rich ores in his country so we keep him in power against the rebellious and starving people. suddenly the wind changes and we sell weapons to the rebels which have now become freedom fighters and we support them as long as the oil is flowing and the ore is coming through. but then maybe we should initiate an uprising in the neighbouring state,as to have an excuse to invade that country as well where we can lay our greasy hands on more ore. the old game sadly never changes in the contrary it gets worse and worse.

WOW! This is a SUPERBLY done allegory Rod! Very well worded and composed. My feelings on war exactly. As to the image ... excellent! The lighting is wonderful. The pose nicely done. I find myself wondering if the glow of the weapon's power source is original in this lighting or if you worked a little Photoshop magic into it. Excellent scene and story Rod.

Wow Rod...the lighting in this one is wonderful. Inside has that warm glow that soft lighting gives, while outside it is dark and cool looking. Love the words that go along with this one also...yes, war is not romantic. It is dirty, it is bloody and people die. Now I'm not bashing the entertainment industry here, but I think that with all of the violent movies and video games out there that it has desenetized us to the reality of war and death. I know that in my job at the police dept. that I see pictures of people who have died in accidents or been killed by someone and as I'm looking at the pictures I have to keep telling myself these are REAL people, not some image on a screen... Another great one!

You show your skills as a storyteller here and give a great allagory of the age that we live in. Here you clearly show the beauty and strength of well done point lighting... lighting that is set up for a unique scene and not canned. It produces a realistic warm glow from the fire and deep rich shadows that fall where they should.

The problem with war is that it's a lottery - who has the biggest zapkill gun, who has the quickest reactions, who has the moral high ground... Esmee has had all three to date, but the more she ponders, the more likely she is to miss the decisive moment between next time and the end of time, for her. No time for hate, no time for reflection - she needs to be ready for action. Outstanding image and story. I hope she survives to old age...
