My corporeal form lives with my wonderful wife and six eccentric cats in beautiful Sedgefield, but my dreaming body is frequently elsewhere, exploring the fractal universe and marveling at nature's chaos. I love traveling to places that exist only as mathematical constructs on my computer and bringing back snapshots that sometimes remind me of the real world (whatever that means), sometimes of metamagical worlds we can visit only in our imaginations. I trained as a biologist and run a small company specialising in science publishing - writing, editing, illustrating and typesetting. For 3D world building I use Vue, Daz Studio and Poser, but I've also used Bryce since version 2 and done some work with Terragen, Carrara and Groboto. For technical illustration I use mainly Illustrator and Photoshop.
Thanks for visiting my little corner of Renderosity, and to everyone who has kindly commented on my images or added my works as a favourite, thank you for that too. Craig.

The plot thickens...Well, there goes my idea out the transdimensional window, so to speak. I like where this is going. Excellent story and image.

Macali didn't visit her captives every day in the beginning. The two she had caught nearly half a turn ago had been interesting pets, but the energy fields they produced while trapped in the vortex seemed neutral to her. Only when she got bored did she sit with the trackers and try to read their fields. With those two the cats came and went, paying no more attention to the vibrating statues than they did to the furniture. Margaret was a different matter. So far neither of the cats had jumped up to investigate Margaret's vortex, but they were certainly more interested in her than they were in the first two. Macali wondered idly what would happen if one of the transdimensional felines wandered too close to the golden glow that signaled the outer edges of the field, but she wasn't interested enough to stick around and find out. She had an assignment to complete, and the people who hired her didn't like to be kept waiting. ..... What a great image! Excellent work, my friend. Hope you enjoy snippet #2! :)

Ok, I have some questions, though I don't expect any answers...Tara restates her narrative in her comment: Did you originally post this without the narrative, Craig? It's a small point, but I was just curious... And I'm not sure if the image followed the tale, or the tale the image. But it's an amazing combo, because the image has such a life of its own, and then boom: The narrative gives it such a different meaning. (I saw the image first, then the tale, so you know.) By itself, the image seems almost a hall of classical statuary; only the statues are clearly real beings of some sort, in a semi-suspended state. That's how it looked to me, before reading a word. It's as if their 'fields'---their energy fields---somehow stopped or suspended them. But their poses seem nearly classical, with a certain grace you find in classical statuary even though they're not wholly so. It's such a fascinating image, with the cats doing what cats do, and macali so vividly here & now compared to the aura-like presence of the others. The narrative explains it in a way I wasn't at all prepared for! And draws out a lot of backstory. Very creative collaboration, you two. And the narrative also sets up more desire to know who macali is, who she's working for, etc. I saw the trackers image and got some of the connection. But for me, this piece is calling for further investigation: You're both doing good 'serial' work, keeping the reader wanting more. (Dickens wrote many novels in serial fashion, and knew just when to end a chapter so his readers would wait anxiously for the next installment.) A fascinating installment, and real surprises on both ends. More fine work.
