More work from my Hornby 1930's Railway Layout.

...and so we will; I've noticed the rails the other day already. Excuse my ignorance, but what is that third (middle) rail for?

The centre rail is for the electrical pickup for the locomotive. Belive it or not they run on 20V AC unlike modern versions which are DC.

TERRIFIC work!! (As a KID, had a LIONEL train set/tracks/cars. Wired up to electric TRANSFORMERS. Then in SMOKESTACK of ENGINE, put a small, plastic 'capsule' in it that 'smoked' from top. Ran that train to death. SMILES).
