-------------- Tales of the Raptors – The Long Dark

The light up ahead was not welcomed. Their new forms railed against it. Their eyes burned. Their skin itched. Kami most of all. She could hardly focus. Their time in the UnderDark had proven to them all how well suited their new forms were for that place of endless blackness and impossible descents. But this, this sudden appearance of life in the middle of nowhere, four miles beneath the Golden Ocean,… most unexpected.

As their eyes painfully adjusted to the lights ahead, they each gasped at the sight. A single form waited in the center of a ruined structure, a temple or small arena it might have been in ages past. Now it was no more than cracked steps, broken columns and a barely standing archway or two. The cavern passage led out, to the north, in the direction Kami most definitely did not want to go, but felt compelled to nonetheless. They’d have to pass the figure to continue their journey. But what did she want, this pale thing, scantily clad and bearing massive curved swords not unlike Jay’s? Kami knew her without words or signals. She was Mord Elf, Orpheus, one of the distant descendants of the Dark Krell worshippers of Mordai. She was not unlike Kami’s own appearance, though she truly hoped that was a helmet or mask she was wearing and not her own face. She remembered something that Lord Corthellian had once said. Until now, she really hadn’t understood what he’d meant.

“There are older and fouler things than Drow in the deep places of the world.”
