Description
This started out as an accident. I was testing a new VSS skin shader on Ryan. His eyes were distractingly bad so I closed them. Switching to face cam to check the details, I liked the composition and blank-stare expression without the eyes. But I'm no artist so can't claim I know what I'm doing here.
Rendered in Poser Pro 2010, GC on, IDL on. Two white infinite lights, with heavily blurred shadow. A large curved prop and the ground (not visible here) provide some bounced fill light. Otherwise the scene is empty. IDL does matter even in a nearly empty scene. Without it, the shadowed areas would be black.
Heavily postworked using the free Picasa image viewer/editor. Postwork effects used were levels and contrast, tint, saturation, glow, and soft focus.
I suggest a click for full size.

Wow! Loving the look of the new shader. Excellent realism!

That looks great! The lighting and shadows are excellent. I hope someday to do as well...sigh.

BB, happy new year, and more accidents like this one. He could do with some lipstick on his cheek :-)

~Fabulous realism!~

Looks fantastic BB! Wish my 'accidents' looked half this good! If I didn't know better, I would have thought this to be a photo. If I ever get to a point where I can say I've learned a tenth of what you've probably forgotten about shaders, I might be able to claim that I know what I'm doing...

Exquisite!

Wonderful!

I had my share of accidents too but none of them looked this good. Superb realism. You're a master of applying IDL and render GC in PoserPro 2010.

Did you say you were no artist??? Now that's taking self deprecation to a new level, don't you think? The only thing to my untrained eye that gives this away as a 3D render is the sharpness of the outline of the lips. Otherwise, this is more than photographic quality. Getting realism like that out of your renders is most definitely an art, which... would make you an artist in my book! Awesome work!

...great realistic portrait

very nice postwork! the materials are stupendous, but you know you've mastered that already. postworking is somewhat new territory. the original is incredibly realistic, but this addressed a lot of the value flattening i could see in it. the lips are too sharply and strangely colored, but i'm guessing that's the texture. kudos for taking Poser's realism to levels no one ever imagined. and thanks so much for generously sharing your knowledge with us. your work is always highly appreciated.

Ticks a lot of boxes for me, despite the lips which I agree are a little distracting. You really notice the subtle modelling on the head revealed by lighting, and in places you really get a feel of flesh - rare. Haven't been around for a while but this caught my eye enough to comment - also rare. Nice happy accident indeed, but then a lot of accomplished art starts out that way.

still the best...

Looks like you've been tagged as a "higher-end 3D artist, BB... I would have missed this if it hadn't been mentioned in that thread. IDL plays a considerable role, I'm sure, in this render, but your PR4 shader steals the limelight. You've raised the bar on what we Poser users should be able to expect to do with this product as it is: the information on how is out there, just a matter of reading and applying. You given heaps to the community, BB... we owe you an enormous debt of gratitude. Oh, great post-work, btw... adds an unfamiliar but pleasing dimension to your images. A pleasant surprise!

After the help you gave me with my question in the Poser forum, I thought I'd come look at your gallery. I love what you did with Ryan. All my PP2010 renders tend to look flat and ... uneventful. this is AMAZING!! Thank you for sharing this.
