Description
Reading General is the first major rail station outside London and, for about the last six months, work has been going on to enlarge the station by adding more platforms and lines.
To accommodate the extra rails, the railway bridges either side of the station are being upgraded and widened.
In Caversham Road, they have removed one of the old Victorian spans and the two 1960's single line spans and are replacing them with a one-piece, slightly wider span.
These are the two single line spans parked outside the old Royal Mail sorting office on New Years Eve.
The road remained closed for a couple of days while they fitted the new bridge, a photo of which I will post in two or three days time.
It did look odd to see railway bridges on wheels parked in the road some distance from their old position.
