Description

Captured 7/31/10, at the American Civil War Reenactment, held at the vast and beautiful El Dorado Park in beautiful Long Beach, California. Much better viewed full size. Okay, let me explain the first photo. Even though the parties involved were firing only black powder and no bullets, the rifles still carried quite a punch -- which was demonstrated to the crowd after the conflict -- so when the two sides approached each other getting closer and closer, and this being a reenactment, they had to aim and shoot into the air to prevent any modern day casualties. After all, they still had another battle to wage later in the afternoon, and they needed everyone shipshape and unfettered. As for the bottom shot, it's still a mystery to me. The Reb at the extreme left, who appears to be simultaneously falling and aiming his weapon at one of his squad, is apparently hit and wounded. In future photos you will see he fell to the ground, then got up and rejoined his compatriots, marching along with them as if nothing had happened. He either inadvertently slipped, or, if wounded, bravely got up, brushed himself off, claiming, ala John Wayne, "It's just a flesh wound, ma'am." Cheerybye, thankx for dropping by, and for any and all complimentary comments and favs.

An excellent collage of great captures. It is hard to believe they fought wars like this and it was no wonder they had so many causalities. Great that the modern day man was just as brave when he was hurt.

Great action shots! Love all these Harry, excellent detail, colour and loads of smoke n bodies ;-) (But in play!) Not having shot a black powder gun (Rog?), but even an M1 or a Enfield has enough kick! Good one mate! Rob

are there theories.. books... ideas what the America;'s would have been like if the South has won.. it is always a mysterie to the Europeans, why the North did not want the South to be free.. Esp now that we see how it is done in Sudan. It is the largest mysterie of the last 250 years..
