Description

I don’t know, exactly how I came to be there in the middle of the night, in the middle of a barren desert….the last thing I remembered was hitting a jackpot on a progressive slot machine in Las Vegas…. As I adjusted my eyes to my new location, I saw a shiny reflection of moonlight poking from base of a large boulder right in front of me… as I neared it I saw that it was a brass oil lamp right out of Aladdin’s Arabian Nights…. Little did I know that that is exactly what it was! Expecting nothing would happen, I of course picked it up and rubbed it just as in Scheherazade’s tale…. I was shocked to see a fog start blasting out of the lamp, wafting this way and that..... then ….There he was…in his giant magnificence, the Djiin ..pointing an angry finger at me…as he roared his dissatisfaction at being disturbed from his long sleep… “Do you not realize the fearsome power you have wrought with a simple rubbing of my lamp, my sanctuary? Many before you have commanded me to grant their wishes. Only Aladdin had the wisdom to heed my advice which I now will suggest to you. I will grant you any 3 wishes…. However be aware that the Universe is complete and whole in total balance at all times… With every wish comes a consequence. Your scientists call it cause and effect… the Chinese call it Yin/Yang… Blessings bestowed to you will be curse to another…. Your happiness…another’s sadness… Over the centuries I have witnessed your human greed to the detriment of others…. And I now long to remain within the confines of my lamp, no longer with my magic contributing to your innate madness.” I thought for several moments of the wisdom of the Djiin… and made a simple wish…. As I held the lamp I wished that the ancient Djiin would forever be confined to his lamp, his sanctuary, never to be disturbed again by Man’s greed, and gently put the lamp back at the base of the boulder where I found it, feeling that I had done the World a favor.
