Description

While at the Dinosaur National Monument in Utah, they had life size models of different creatures from the age of dinosaurs. . This is a woolly mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius), also called the tundra mammoth. This animal is known from bones and frozen carcasses from North America, Eurasia and Siberia. They disappeared from most of its range at the end of the Pleistocene age about 10,000 years ago. While large, woolly mammoths were not noticeably taller than present-day African elephants, though they were heavier. Fully grown mammoth bulls reached heights between 9.2 to 13.1 feet (2.8 to 4 meters). They could weigh up to 8.8 tons (8 tonnes). They had extremely long tusks, up to 16 feet (5 meters) long. This could be a relative of mine Dana! I have a DVD you might like. It's called 'The Thaw' and it's about a Mammoth baby they find that's been preserved in the ice.......only it's infested with deadly prehistoric parasites too!
