"The New Watch", war memorial on Unter den Linden, Berlin. A very large, empty room with this figure in the center. Very poignant, and even more so in the snow. I took a photo of it when in Berlin January 2008. I was quite moved. Good photo. Let us never forget. The human suffering was on all sides of that tragic war.

A very fine catch, Lineke! I hhave never seen this place covered with snow. This gives these war memorial a very special touch! The sculpture was made by Kaethe Kollwitz, a social engaged doctor fore poor people in Berlin and famous sculpturist. It shows a sad mother with her dead son on her knees. Very touching!

Stunning. I love the almost human shape the stone carries, the way the whole scene is so incredibly stark and calm. This definitely invites meditation and introspection and it is a beautiful, sensitive, and moving. This is an excellent, and elegant piece of work.
