Description

Robin's Sunset - January 2011 When I sat down to write my thoughts for a new year, it became very clear what my priorities are; love, family and making every moment count. It reminded me of something I learned a few years ago, while I was still commuting to work every day and I would like to share it with you. I took the same route to work everyday and came to notice the smaller things on my drive, such as where the first spring blossoms would show or when the farmer would plant his first crop. My favorite times of year were Spring and Fall, when my drive coincided with sunrise and sunset. On an early spring day, waiting in traffic, I noticed a bright green lawn across the way and the many robins dotting it's surface. As I drew alongside I noticed the robins were not busily looking for food, but standing straight up, all looking in the same direction. I wondered about that as I passed, it seemed so odd. The evening drive found me in anticipation as I drew closer to that same lawn and then I saw them, all the robins. They stood straight up, all looking in the same direction, and I realized it was a different direction this time. Then it dawned on me, as I saw their shadows stretching out behind them, that they all stood facing the setting sun. It was the same sight, every morning and evening, the robins all standing and watching the rise and set of the sun. It is a beautiful thing the robins have taught me, simple and probably obvious to most, but the sort of thing I had not thought about for a long time. Now, when I can, I do as the robins do and my life is richer for it. May you all have a wonderful New Year and thank you all for making my life richer as well.

This is beautiful. And thanks for sharing the encounter, that's really so strange and wonderful. And it's such a great thing to have your eyes and mind open for these little things. Being an artist does that, many would benefit from making artwork themselves, I think. It's about looking and learning to see. 5*

In life we are given only so many sun rises/sets...Most of which we take for granted as life itself consumes most of our time...Your story holds weight and truth and for someone like yourself to be able to begin to notice such things more now than before and then to be able to create such vividly beautiful art is inspiring.. I have one word to describe what you created.... M.A.S.T.E.R.P.I.E.C.E ! (smile)

Who knows, maybe there's a famouis legend among the robins talking about the origins of sunsets and sunrises and what happens during night... Once again today, you made my day brighter and more magical. Splendid scene, and thanks for sharing this encounter with us.

A great insight into the Zen-Advaita insight in which the only moment is now. The picture speaks that perfectly
