When Europe was still powerful and Mighty and wise Monarch's still ruled In these days the real architects worked on our cities.. making them beautiful A fantastic Gate !! Great photo of an ere that is forever gone In the back you see the work of modern day .... [ugly word], calling themselves architects, but they are destroyers of Art

I hear you loud and clear. We don't have old buildings or structures like the rest of the world because we are the New World, but in my town we have buildings of great beauty and architecture, and then we have the "modern" stuff that is sterile and decidedly ugly.

The door of war?? The Brandenburg Gate was commisioned by Friedrich Wilhelm II to represent peace. The Gate was designed by Karl Gotthard Langhans, the Court Superintendent of Buildings, and the main architectural design of this landmark hasn't changed since it was first constructed in 1791. Ironically the gate was incorporated into the Berlin wall during the years of Communist government. The Brandenburg gate is probably the most well-known landmark in Berlin, it now stands as a symbol of the reunification of the two sides of this great city.

You captured the Brandenburg gate very well. The gate in all it's glory, on a high quality level. A HDR, I think.... But: Why did you place the gate into this surrounding? This surrounding is wrong, behind the gate is a fine big park on one side and one of the finest places of Berlin, the Pariser Platz, on the other side with fine old (and new) buildings... Authorities of Berlin and the people fought for months very heavy about the question, how to construct the Pariser Platz new - old fashioned or with modern architecture? They decided to reconstruct the old forms, dimensions and architecture styles.... If you show the gate in this way, please inform us that it is a photo manipulation.... And the door of war? The door of Cold War, maybe. When it was constructed, nobody could imagine that the door was closed with a wall 150 years later by communistic idiots... We here believe that the re-opening of the door in 1989 was the begin of something new, the strongest symbol we could get for a better future... In THIS question Berlinians from both side of this gate have only one meaning: It is a strong symbol for better times , and we are lucky about this...
