Description

Photograph taken in Weihai, Shandong province, PR China. While battered by sun and rain, this mural paint in a small village inner court is all what's left from the Revolution.

It looks like Mao has seen better days! This is also a fantastic photograph! I look forward to more. I love murals when they're decaying and faded as this one is...there's a certain timeless quality that they achieve, generally as they fade. I guess its one of those artistic paradoxes where the more fragile and obviously "mortal" a thing shows itself to be, the more enduring and timeless it becomes, at least until it's obscured forever, or--quite simply--forgotten. I love the details in this and the timeless quality of the image itself. Mao looks like Mao, and yet the stonework, the faint and fading colors, the raw architectural details, all make this look somewhat timeless. This is a great piece of work. I like it immensely.
