Description
A story is told by the Klamath people of Southern Oregon of a great battle waged between the spirits of Earth and Sky and what followed. Some 7,700 years ago the Earth spirit Llao of the Below-World fell in love with Loha, a Klamath princess. She rejected him and he swore revenge on her people. Her father, chief of the Klamath people, sought help from Skell, the Sky spirit of the Above-World. A great battle raged between the spirits throwing hot rocks into the air, causing the Earth to tremble and spreading darkness over the land. In the end Skell defeated Llao, driving him down into the Below-World under Mount Mazama. He then collapsed the mountain to imprison Llao beneath the world. To cover this dark pit Skell filled it with beautiful blue water.

What a great tale! A pity folk no longer seem to pass on these stories to their children. Much easier to put the kid in front of the box with a dummy and a supply of burgers. A very beautiful place, and the story adds to it.
