Description
There are more people of Italy which ended up being partners (socii) of Roma. The Latins settled in the plain of Lazio and the lower reaches of the Tevere. But there were other communities that were established along the Apennines, from Umbria to Lucania and Abruzzo. The most numerous are the Samnites. About Lazio also find the Marsi, Equi, and at north Volscians and the Umbrians. In the Adriatic coast from north to south were the Piceni, Frentani, Apulians and Messapians.
The picture shows some leaders of these peoples. On the left a Apulian, with a panoply of Greek influence on the right a Piceno (her panoply is inspired by the famous "Warrior of Capestrano" which can be accessed at the Museum of Chieti in the Abruzzo).
