This is one of our favorite wine shops that Julia and I have encountered in our travels. Honey Hole Liquors, located in a 150 year old building in Apalachicola, Florida, is actually so much more than a wine and liquor shop. It's as genuine down home friendly as it gets, and they also carry a wide assortment of interesting unique gifts. Of course the alcohol selection is second to none as well! We fell in love with the whole Apalachicola area, also known as "The Forgotten Coast". It's how all of Florida USED to be. Look back in my and Julia's gallery to June of last year and you'll see why. As for the somewhat suggestive sounding business name, their web site has the following explanation: Anyone who fishes knows that secret spot where the fish always seem to bite is called a "honey hole;" and anyone who is familiar with Apalachicola knows that the local Tupelo Honey is absolutely wonderful. Because of our love for fishing and the local honey, the name "Honey Hole Liquors" seemed very fitting. Makes sense. And who doesn't drink a bit when fishing? Anyway, I always loved Tupelo Honey, both the song by Van Morrison and the honey. So if you are ever in the "Forgotten Coast" area, be sure to pay a visit to the Honey Hole in Apalachicola. While there we bought a couple of Honey Hole shot glasses, and think of the warmth and picturesque atmosphere of this place every time we make a toast! Cheers! marshall
