Description

I made this picture in a coffeehouse while waiting to go to the doctor. That's all I ever seem to do these days: go to the doctor. Numerous doctors. My social life these days revolves around occasional visits to and from friends, and going to the doctor. Numerous doctors. Needless to say, I've grown a bit tired of going to the doctor. Numerous doctors. And it's not that my numerous doctors are unpleasant, on the contrary, they're all wonderful, kind professionals. Still, I'm bored with going to the doctor. A certian ennui has set in. Or maybe it's simply that it's January in Chicago, a situation that could produce ennui in Pollyanna. So, anyway, I was sitting in a coffeehouse--a very charming coffeehouse--next to the Sheridan station on the Howard/Red Line train, waiting to see the doctor at the nearby Howard Brown Clinic. I started playing with my ever present Nikon Coolpix and made several shots of people emerging from the train station. This one was my favorite. Photographed in the Emerald City Coffee Bar on Sheridan Road in the Buena Park area of Chicago on January 12, 2011.

I guess they're trying to get everyone to vote for Yllom Nalehp, whoever that is. I like this shot. It's cinematic in the way the light hits surfaces and dances with the over-reaching shadows. Well seen and I love the gritty, urban feel of this. Kinda funny since it's taken INSIDE of a coffeehouse, and so gritty shouldn't be the first thing that comes to mind; but it IS under the el, so grit is worked into the structure of the place: its very existential core. I love the human touch of the curious pedestrian. This is a nice shot and a very good writeup. Really good work.

Ah yes, the tedium of doctor's appointments. Ever notice how they're never on time but you have to be? Lucky you to find a cafe close at hand to spend some time. Me, I get to sit and not read the numerous womens' magazines the good doctor has supplied for her waiting room. Speaking of ennui. Nice shot. Photography does engage the mind in those moments and I am ever thankful now for my digital camera.

I love the shot, (and want to know more anout Molly P.) I thankfully only have to go every three months, but the hospital has a super lake with wild, well, tame fowl and rabbits all round it. So in good weather I go down there and they ring me when it's nearly my turn. The answer is to make appointments for very first thing in the morning, then there is NO excuse for them getting behind!

This is so urban in makes my toes curl! Or would, if they could! I like the way you have captured the chap actually looking your way...most folks are so intent on getting to wherever, they rarely look to the side! Smashing capture. ^=^

Love the color of the road cone - really draws your eye out the window. Very nice shot Corey - the narrative is hilarious! You and Mom have bonding moments over her constant dr. visits with chemo and Dad now with the pneumonia- love it!

You have such an eye for color and composition! I like this a lot. Under the El is such an iconic, Chicago place to be (she said, based on three days experience). I love that view, and probably would never get tired of it even if I were there every day for a year. Every time we walked under the El I felt like the Country Mouse in the big city. The repeating red really makes this for me. Awning, cone, t-shirt, windowsill, rust ... wow! A fine shot, my friend.
