Description

This would have been August 1965 and the recovery of the Gemini V capsule, with astronauts Charles Conrad Jr., Pilot & L Gordon Cooper Jr., Command Pilot. Once again I am using a US Navy camera, as was everybody else, and all cameras were returned to the ships photo department, I can not be 100% sure that I actually took this specific shot, thus the snapshot label. If you zoom you can see the frogmen are in the water and their rubber raft is also deployed. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

Very cool! I remember as a kid (I was 5 in 1965)watching the splashdown of the capsules and seeing the astronauts open the door and climb out.

Splendid clarity and composition in this shot, no matter who snapped it, Dana. The Gemini V capsule/spacecraft sure looks tiny down there in the ocean.

This is a great shot and wonderful piece of history! It looks tremendously exciting and I love the you-are-there-seat-of-the-pants immediacy. This is a knock out! I would have been 3 years old at the time and have very little memory of the Gemini period, but the Apollo missions I remember quite well. Again, this is a fantastic shot!

Great shot Dana. I remember that one of the astronauts during another orbital flight almost drowned during the recovery process.

So well I remember gathering around the TV to see these capsules come home. I was always astounded they could always find water to come down in. :-) Getting up early to see a rocket take off or having a TV rolled into the classroom so we could watch it from school. It was thrilling. This was the most exciting time in my life as far as witnessing history being made. Awesome shot regardless of who took it.

Another quiet day in the Navy?..Cool bit of history, and great you could be a part of it.The comment "I was using a US Navy camera, as was everybody else" conjours up some wonderful images for some strange reason. Thanks for sharing this marvelous moment.
