Description

This started out as a test of my new gforce 4 ti4600 graphics card. I wanted to see how much I could shove in there and still be able to work. It took 1.7 gig of memory to render. It kind of bogged down in the viewports but I had all 4 solid/textured. Much better than my old gforce2 card. I did try it on the one game I play, Warm Up , 1600x1200 32 bit colors and it kicked ass :)

Very cool looking image. Maybe the stream is too wide though and the trees in the back look like they should be bigger too me. I currently use a geforce 2 =( and I've been doing animations with alot of trees so the scences tend to get really high poly gets pretty slow in the viewports if I don't have the trees hidden, and that's in edges not solid

Thanks :) I was having the same problem with the viewports. That's why I let my brother talk me into upgrading. I get the most out of it when I model though. I use images sometimes as templates when I model to keep stuff in scale. With the gforce 2 the template images looked so bad it was hard to see, really pixelated, now they are crisp and clear. You can zoom right in and the textures in the viewports look great. A big improvement. These cards are big. More than twice as big as a gforce2. Make sure you have lots of room if your going to upgrade. I made the creekbed kind of big because out here in Nevada the creeks and rivers have been drying up in the fall. With Tahoe expected to drop below the rim this year you'll see a lot of the truckee river dry this year :(

Absolutely Marvelous! I love scenes with lots of details! By the way, how many MB of ram do you have?

I have a gig of physical and I set my virtual at 2 gig. I still get low memory messages from windows but win2k will grab more hard drive space for virtual and keep going. Max will crash if I get the low memory message while the raytrace engine is running. If I have a heavy duty scene I'll shut down max and restart to render as it drops your memory usage. I need a new hard drive just for virtual memory. with drive prices so low that's next on my list :)
