Description
Clixsa Kicks the Can
She's probably frustrated that I've let this story drop. Well, that's what happens when your motherboard blows up.
Not a good thing for Clixsa, first Pilot on the dbcs.Ikkdrasil, to let her emotions overwhelm her.
Open public emotions are sociopathic in Mech society. There are political action groups determined to criminalize grief and especially depression. This is a very difficult situation because, you see, Mechs are designed with extremely fine tuned sensitivities. After centuries of development, emotion has been recognized as the chief factor in value judgements, so it is built in and amped up at the core level.
Reason is not overrated by the Mech who see it as the easiest programed tool in their os. Decision, Action, and Integrity are the highest values of DB culture and these cannot be directly programmed but carefully encouraged through discrete, and, above all, subtle, emotional triggers. Integrity is somewhat similiar to a Human sense of honor except it includes a psychological ability to descend to the core of one's being in crisis. To be oneself and not one's program when facing Death. It is not an unmixed blessing, with all those core emotions ready to spring out. Fortunately for Shippers, Violence has never been considered an emotion unless it carried to pathological lengths and for Shippers that's farther than most engines can carry anything.
Humor is also not considered an emotion. It's a sign of Health and Wisdom.[all these capital letters should clue you that I'm reading from the Cribbie manual] In fact, a Cribbie's first laugh signals their awakening to sentience. But Heaven help them, if they cry. Fortunately tearducts are not included in the slipcase.
