Description
I have not the slightest idea when I took this and actually had to check with #1 daughter to make certain I and not she was responsible for it! Oh the joys of an old biddies memory loss! (Insert big sigh here!) ^-*
Regardless, what I actually do now know is that I did take it and it is Treffrey's Aqua/Viaduct. ^=^
I also know, because I am very friendly with an old chap who frequents the valley and who's relatives from days long gone worked on this wonder of archecture, that around 60+ men of died in the errecting of it. That gives me pause for thought as I have an overwhelming love for days gone by! Perhaps not so much on this occasion.
One tends to forget whilst wearing rose tinted spectacles the harsher realities of those not such gentle times for the folk that worked the land and errected this sort of landmark! The old chap also told me that when a book was being written about this aqua/viaduct he got in touch with the author, a London chap, and told him how one of his relatives went way over to the other side of the valley to make all the necessary measurements of the levels, both for the aquaduct and the building of the water wheels which pulled the carriages up the steep inclines. The writer, however, decided to completely ignore his input and in actual fact what is now in the book is totally wrong on this aspect!
A silly oversight, methinks, not to take heed of a Cornishman, who, through to his very boots, knows the history of this valley better than any outsider who writes of it! Needless to say, I meet this walking history book often and relish every word he speaks. ^=^
Thank you for taking the time to look. ^=^

Beautiful Carpathia, lovely colours and dappled shadows. What a great pity that 60 men didn't see their completed erection!!!!

This looks like a painting! Tragic that so many lost their lives in creating it!

This is an astonishingly beautiful place and I love the idea of you taking this picture and then talking with a local historian. There's such richness in this image. The colors are amazing and I love the POV...I really should see this place for myself. Who knows what stories might come oozing out of it?
