Description
I am experimenting with winter and snow images. This one shows off what I have learned so far. It is supposed to show a view of the icy desert that is found at the south pole: Antarctica during a bright summer day.
Getting snow to look right is tough. I used several tricks here to simulate the reflections and highlights and coloured sparkles that one can see under these lighting conditions. I used Quadspinners "Shimmerwind" metanode to drive the an-isotropic highlights and a colour map controlled by a fractal node to get some colour changes. To see the effect you need to look at the foreground on the full size image (download).
I also found that it is crucial to carefully control the anti-aliasing because otherwise it will wipe out the subtle effects.
Set up and rendered in Vue 9 Infinite.

Nice work...tough to get the look of bright sun on snow without it blowing out the subtle tones! Like the composition!
